It sounds great, but it’s currently impossible. The existing solar panels aren’t strong enough to collect enough energy to run the car, even if you covered the entire car with them. Remember, you’re trying to move 2000 lbs or more of metal and plastic. If the panels could collect enough energy, they could store it in a battery, like electric cars do now, and that would allow people to get home when the sun went down, but until we can get the solar technology to work, the whole idea fails.

Solar energy is not efficient enough to run most type of cars, but yes I think we should use solar cars for some type of lightweight vehicles. You don’t need a 4×4 truck to get to your job every morning. But there is no way you can transport any significant cargo with a solar powered car.

Solar energy is just not practical right now. The technology to make it practical does not exist. You might as well wish for cars that run on grass clippings or nuclear fusion.

We need to be realistic about our energy sources and weigh the cost/benefits associated with them, rather than engage in wishful thinking about what for all practical purposes is still just science fiction. Bummer, huh?

Well, I am sure that once they do put in the market solar-powered vehicles, they will have those concerns worked out, maybe an energy supply battery of sorts, who knows.
And yes, it would be great!
