I have a few solar cells for a vacation home (~20w, 12VDC) and would like to create just enough electricity when i am away to keep maintainence costs down, while using the power company as a giant battery for excess when I am home. Since I am only there once a month or so, i would like to keep costs as low as possible, so these are not permanent fixtures. And I would like to be able to just plug it into the wall.
each panel is 20w

in order to back feed thru the meter u must by the power companys switching device the last time i checked on this it was about 20000usd not a worthwhile endeavor if u do do it tho by law the power company must pay u for ur electricity but they price the switching device so high that unless u r producing a serioous amount of power it is not worth it
It is not worth bothering with. A 20 watt solar system can create 40 kWh per year, which is worth about five bucks. The switch gear and reversible meter will cost lots more than that.
Is each cell 20w @ 12vdc? This would not even come close to be a complete waste of your time. You would have to step up the 12vdc to 120 vac to plug it in. It does not supply enough to make it worth your while. Finally, it would be illegal unless the power company can certify it. I doubt they will.
