Why doesn’t the Dept. of Urban Development, (HUD), require solar panels in all new housing?

Not only should the use of solar pannels be used but wind generators. I see housing going up everywhere and not a solar pannel in sight. Out West, we are in a drought, wet lands and forests are being encroched upon by the incessant building of new homes and shopping malls. The wild horses, Long Horned Sheep, and Pumas can’t graise and hunt in the shopping mall. Water can’t seep into the black-top of a parking lot. Why not use the new technologies to referbish and retrofit the older, rundown, neighborhoods. Make what is already there more desireable for people to live in and leave the undeveloped lands alone.

I have all led and cfl bulbs. I recycle 60% of all my trash. I am a vegetarian. I do not know what else I can do. I am very, very poor, so I cannot afford solar, wind turbines, or even something as simple as a composting bin.

Why dont electricity companies use our roof (solar) to generate electrcity to contribute to the national grid?

I live in NZ where nuclear electricity generation is not an option and where solutions have to be found that are sustainable. Most of our electricity is generated by hydro-electric dams but as we move towards needing more electricity (it seems minimising use is in the too-hard basket) we are being asked to consider solutions such as Marsden B – a proposed coal fired power station. What I want to know is, why cant electricity companies make a deal with us to install solar panels on our roofs which can contribute to the national grid daily? Obviously electricity is difficult to store but there must be a more sustainable and economically friendly way to deliver electricity to homes without sacrificing the planet.

I am interested in finding out more information on getting home solar power units for the house, and I saw an ad for free home solar panels. In the ad they say it may be free through government rebates, I am looking for the website address that goes along with this ad.

And to find out if it is too good to be true..

small residential solar power system

short video describing a small solar power system that i set up at my house. it consists of twelve 1 amp solar panels (15 watts each for a total of 180 watts of power – per hour). i use it to run all lights (cfl’s), fans, tv’s, and stereos in the house. also the microwave, coffee maker, blender, can opener, sandwich grill, toaster, vacuum, computer and anything else i can think of. run time for lights/fans only is approx 8 hours. add in vacuuming, microwaving or toaster along with lights, tv and the fans and the run time is reduced to 4-5 hours a day. i bought solar panels, inverter (1000 watt) and killowatt meter at Harbor Freight tools, the batteries (deep cycle) from walmart and the battery cables from checker auto. total cost was about $1200 to $1300
