I have an old house with two different fuse boxes. One with round fuses, and another with breakers. The one with breakers ties into another breaker box that is in my shop in the back yard. Is it possible to wire my shop to act as a solar powered UPS for my home? I like the idea of starting off with a bank of batteries that can power my home for up to a day in case of power outages. (I live in town, and don’t see a need for more than 24 hours of backup power) I believe I could start off with only a few panels to trickle charge the batteries and once they are charged the panels could then help suply electricity to power my home. I could then add panels as I can afford them to continue to lower my electric bill… maybe even to the point that I could achieve a near zero $$ bill. I know that planning is very important, and nothing beats conservation… so even though I know, and I mean believe I know, that this should all be possible… can someone provide me with some good ideas on how I can plan out my different stages to make this all possible?

I need a thorough access to where to get materials or components and circuitry if possible, to build a solar inverter of capacity 1500W for home usage.

Jun-Sep $0.0904/kWh
Oct-May $0.0776/kWh
Annual Ave: $0.0824/kWh

Distribution charges add on approximately another $0.0228/kWh.

How long would the ROI for an 8 kWh/day solar system be?

A recent report said the Space Staion had 240 sq ft of solar panels. They said it was enough to supply 40 average homes with electricity. Frige, TV’s, air conditioning, lights and heat. 40 homes! 240 sq ft! That means a 6 sq ft solar panel on my roof should do the job I’m paying the electric co. hundreds a month for. What gives?

Has anyone made a home made generator? I am looking to make a small solar, gas, battery powered generator, something that will run some barn lights. If you have made one, please give me a list of parts, and instructions. maybe a good website to visit.

please i need to know your combination of solar panels (with the wattage), inverters(how many and its rating), batteries(how many and there voltage) specically for like a 16KW load.Please i will like also to know there manufacturers for refrences.

I am wanting to power just a couple household items with a small solar panel. What will I need? I know I need a solar panel, and some kind of AC-DC converter, and a battery perhaps? How would I wire it up?

I do NOT want to spend a fortune doing this, I am only in an apartment, so it needs to be small and self-contained.

I was wondering if anybody tried a solar panel installation business for regular homes, businesses … etc.

I think that hospitals and factories … and everybody can benefit from an extra source of clean energy. The actual panels and work will eventually pay itself out.
If more details can be provided like links, suppliers, manufacturers … etc, I would appreciate it.

Loads will be home lighting, maybe 5 computers, refrigerator, T.V. and other home appliances totaling maybe about 1-2 megawatt load if all appliances are turned on at the same time.

I looked into solar panels, but apparently it isn’t worth the money to buy one. Someone suggested a windmill. I have a large three bedroom home and the heating and cooling bill is killing me. Would a windmill work?

I just wanted to play with solar panels and human powered generators and couldn’t figure out the simplest and cheapest way to hook it into my house to get some benefit out of it.

I.E. can i just have my panel hooked into a charge controller and a single battery to act as a float and then an inverter and hook the output from the inverter into a standard power plug in the house? can i push power into a power outlet or is there some system so that power can only come out of the plug?

anyone have any ideas on the easiest simplest way to hook up a panel or a car alternator? I was going to turn my indoor bicycle into a generator by hooking up a car alternator to it… how could i most simply hook this into the house?
