MIT released an article in Science magazine on 7/31 that may revolutionize the energy industry in ten years. We may be able to generate hydrogen for our home and vehicle from back-yard solar panels under development. Google “MIT Photovoltaic Discovery”.
Templar, this is new news. What is different is that MIT has discovered which catalysts may make hydrogen conversion economically viable.

This is for a science project so I need a valid source. By the question about the size of the unit I mean exactly how many solar cells, how many blades, depth of water, models for all(if possible). I’m not looking for someone to do my science fair project, I just need someone to point me in the right direction!!

I live in NZ where nuclear electricity generation is not an option and where solutions have to be found that are sustainable. Most of our electricity is generated by hydro-electric dams but as we move towards needing more electricity (it seems minimising use is in the too-hard basket) we are being asked to consider solutions such as Marsden B – a proposed coal fired power station. What I want to know is, why cant electricity companies make a deal with us to install solar panels on our roofs which can contribute to the national grid daily? Obviously electricity is difficult to store but there must be a more sustainable and economically friendly way to deliver electricity to homes without sacrificing the planet.

If people started vowing not to buy another car until they can buy an affordable 100% electric car would you make the same commitment? Imagine, filling your car up for less then $5.00 of electricity at home (or completely free with solar panels on your home). People are already doing it! Never going to the gas station again. And no longer being controlled by the oil companies.

Not just for fun, but real, usable cells to use for providing electricity to my home….. I cannot afford the thousands of dollars most companies are asking for, and I am getting way ripped off by my electric provider, the only one in my area.

We are planing on buying solar panel. or how panel it it required.

I mean, you would wwant to make it somewhere sunny, for solar panels, but somewhere that it was fairly windy, for wind power. And you wouldn’t want water to freeze over in the winter – any ideas? Thanks!

Wind energy systems are not feasible, am I limited to solar only?
